Journaling my progress in CMAT 211 with a WordPress blog was interesting. I thought I was more advanced user of WP before we started. I learned a few things. Very important to categorize every post to help navigation of your site easier. Converting InDesign files to jpeg’s so i can upload them to my journal was new and very useful.
The idea that I can journal my progress with anything (class, project etc..) on a WordPress blog is cool to me. A tool that I will be sure to use in the future.
The Digital Design Studio is a great resource for Digital Communications students located in the Liberal Arts and Policy Building. If you don’t access to Adobe on your personal computer you can go there to complete your assignments. They have personnel whop can help with any issues that arise for you.
This was rather easy, but they are great additions to your site. allows for easy navigation on your page. I like that there are plenty of widgets available to help you design your page and make it look exactly how you want it.
This was a little technical but will get easier over time. will work on this more in my spare time when I can. Hope my image is sufficient. i want to change my mage to something more that fits my taste.
I couldn’t wait to start this process, my page was dull. Adding some color and changing the font on my site gave it some life. The customization options are extensive which is great especially with changing the colors. you really can find the exact color you’re looking for.
Adding categories to my posts will allow users to navigate my site better. Categories tells you what content I have falls under, or what it represents as a whole. Leaving posts “uncategorized” can make your site messy and unorganized.
Links inserted in my pages I feel gives it a professional look like the sites I visit daily. Links weren’t that hard to add to my pages, previous WordPress experience made it quite easy for me execute. Leaving full web links in a post looks jumbled, but the inserted link looks clean.
Adding images to my WordPress pages wasn’t that hard for me because I have previous WordPress experience. I did learn how to create jpeg’s from my InDesign assignments.
Learning WordPress shouldn’t be that hard because I’ve had previous experience with building a site. Learning InDesign was tougher but became easier as the weeks progressed. Hope to get a subscription to the adobe suite so I can get more practice with it (hopefully).
Since this isn’t my first experience using WordPress, I’m not too frightened to work with it. Although I have already heard a few terms (that I forgot already) that I haven’t heard of before in reference to WordPress pages, but I should be fine.
I’ve added a few posts and set up the required “pages”, such as the Class Projects Page, and “sub pages”, for all the designs we worked on this semester, it’s starting to make sense. I’ve even added a placeholder (FPO) pdf file to the Resources page and it was just as simple as clicking the “Add Media” button. If the rest of the project is this easy, I think the final project is going to come together really nicely.
Pages can have subpages, and they can be ordered using Page Attributes as well. An example of these parent and subparent pages can be found under Class Projects in my site.
We learned some new WordPress terms as well exploring the differences between Posts and Pages and the front end versus the back end (Dashboard). I’m sure there will be new terms to follow.
